Clients who need support to set and strengthen their own goals.
The basic period aims to orientate clients into rehabilitation and to motivate them to work towards their goals.
The basic period rehabilitation programme includes community meetings, acupuncture, relaxation and activities.
In addition to the rehabilitation programme, clients receive help from the centre’s staff and other clients in starting the rehabilitation and managing their affairs. The objective is to ensure that during the basic period the clients’ everyday affairs are in good enough shape to enable them to focus on the rehabilitation.
The length of a rehabilitation period in a community varies from one day to one month. In the basic period, we strive to motivate the client to change and to strengthen those personal objectives and means that will support change. From the perspective of these objectives, we assess the client’s substance-abuse background, life situation, state of health, interactive skills, group working skills and motivational conflicts.
The basic period programme includes various groups in which the setting of goals, information on substance abuse, the Tervalampi Manor’s operating principles and the community-based rehabilitation method are covered, and the work of the centre’s other communities and the opportunities offered by out-patient care are introduced.
After the basic period, clients have an opportunity to continue their rehabilitation in other rehabilitative communities or to continue their substance-abuse rehabilitation in out-patient care.
